Tonight is our last night in Utah. The past few days we've explored Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. When we went to Arches, the temperature hovered around 100 degrees all day long with the sun beating right down. I've always scoffed at people who complain about heat with no humidity, but I have to admit it was pretty miserable. It is the desert after all. Conversely, the temperature at Canyonlands stayed in the 60s most of the day with lots of clouds and a few showers.
Utah has brought one verse to my mind again and again:
For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities - all things were created through Him and for Him. - Colossians 1:16
As we see these incredible formations and landscapes, the thought overwhelms me that first and foremost, they are all created for His glory. They are created for their Maker before they contribute to their ecosystems, and even before they inspire us. It's been a humbling reminder that I am the same, created through Him and
for Him.
Balanced Rock was the first famous formation that we visited. There was a guy there playing bagpipes the whole time which I got TOO excited about. I tried to take some video to share, but in doing so I learned that I am no good at videoing. So, just look at the picture below and imagine the bagpipes playing in the background...

This was as close as we were willing to hike to Delicate Arch...we were over the heat by then:

Considering the rainy weather, Canyonlands was really enjoyable. The weather ended up contributing to this since it gave us a much needed break from the heat (listen to me whine about dry heat! I've become one of
them.)
See that arch in the background of the picture below? That's Mesa Arch. When we got a little closer to it we set up the tripod to get a shot of the two of us (much like this one...) but as I clicked the button and started to run to where Jimmy was standing to make the shot in time (he was ridiculously far away), the camera fell right to the ground. It smashed the filter lens to pieces. I not only felt like I was going to faint for fear that we had just broken our camera, but it was also considerably embarrassing. Thankfully the camera is still working fine and the only casualty was the cheap protective lens.
My genius editing skills removed the shards of glass from the broken lens that framed this picture (aka I cropped it):
