Oh, Colorado.

This is my first visit to Colorado. And yet, I've always had this idea that it would be such a cool place to live. And now that I've experienced it a bit, I still think it would be a cool place to live. Cool, literally, as it has hovered around 60 degrees the past few days...and cool, figuratively, because there is so much to see and so many reasons to be outside year-round. I was energized driving into Vail seeing all the people riding bikes, jogging, and doing various activities in the rivers and streams.

Admittedly, though, we were expecting to see more snow-capped mountains in the area - which doesn't seem like much to ask considering the cool temperatures! It was also stormy during our stay, so for much of the day most mountain peaks were hidden behind clouds. All that to say, Colorado hasn't been quite what we expected (Our expectation = more snow) but it has been really nice with some beautiful views and refreshing greenery after all those canyons!

We did quite a bit of driving around Colorado, as you can see:

A little creek right behind our hotel. Complete with walking trail.

Vail. An uppity Gatlinburg.

Jarvis saw this spot and made us pull in and have a snack. He can be very insistent.

We went out to Idaho Springs for lunch, a quaint little mountain town:

...And met up with my friend Megan! She moved out to Colorado a few years ago and I have missed her so. We ate at Beau-Jo's (her suggestion, and it was a brilliant one) - it was the best lunch we've had in a WHILE. Certainly MOUNTAINS better than canned tuna and ramen noodles. Not only is Megan a master suggester, she's also a soon-to-be-published-co-author. You should do yourself a favor and check out the book's website here and keep a lookout for its release later this year.

My favorite person in Colorado.
TOO many cars were driving by as we took this.

Jimmy cleverly remembered that the Loveland Pass was worth driving right as approached the exit for it, so we took the little detour. It twisted and turned up a mountain to a marker for the continental divide. It was FREEZING up there but gorgeous!

The Loveland Pass was a treat for Jarvis.
